About us

The CIBERSAM is composed of 26 clinical and basic research groups belonging to 8 Autonomous Communities, which primarily research mental disorders such as depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, as well as anxiety disorders, child and adolescent diseases, geriatric diseases and, in general, any neuroscientific aspect related to health and mental illness. The approach to studying these diseases has a clear translational component, seeking synergy among groups that perform their work in hospitals, research centres, and universities.

The Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Salud Mental comprises a human team of about 300 persons, with a staff of more than 100 professionals hired over the course of 2008, the rest being members of personnel groups attached to the CIBERSAM.

The research projects that are conducted in it have a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional character, incorporating basic, clinical, and population research. It primary objective is to add value to the system through leading-edge research in the field of psychiatry and related neurosciences.

The final objective is to establish a research group centre open to the scientific, medical, political, and social community, a research leader in Spain and Europe that generates knowledge and provides added value.
