During its fourth year of activity, the CIBERSAM has succeeded in reaching a leading position in the area of research excellence, at both a national and international level. This allows us to continue meeting the needs of mental illness research in the Spanish population. We believe that the data presented in the 2011 report demonstrates the enormous effort put forth by everyone at the CIBERSAM. In 2011, the budget from the Spanish Government represented approximately 50% of the total operating cost, which means that we have been able to significantly increase external funding. In 2011 the CIBERSAM was very active in Europe with most of its groups participating in or applying for European grants.
We are also making the commitment for the coming years to meet the exciting challenge of providing scientific evidence that will improve our understanding of the causes and treatment of mental illness as well as its prevention.
