Mental illnesses constitute as a whole one of the major health problems due to the important social, economic and personal burden involved.
The investigation of psychosomatic, anxiety and impulse control disorders focuses its interest on the eventual dominance of the pathologies, which, because of their high prevalence or the intensity of their manifestations, have high social costs and in the quality of life of individuals. Psycho-somatic comorbidity studies, an expanding field of psychiatry, have significant prospects for the rest of medicine when documenting the effect that physical diseases have on psychological functions and, at the same time documenting the influence psychopathology may have on the precipitation and the course of somatic diseases.
Current research in CIBERSAM groups in this programme may have broader implications, both for its ability to involve good clinical services that are not as yet as well developed on the research side, in addition to promoting their implication in projects and scientific studies.
CIBERSAM Research in Psychosomatic, Anxiety and Impulse Control Disorders
The overall objective of CIBERSAM regarding this programme is:
-
Promoting translational and collaborative research, enabling epidemiological studies in different populations (medical surgical, primary care, etc) to be carried out
-
Deepening the bi-directional neurobiological relationship between somatic pathology and psychological morbidity
-
The dissemination of results that allows both the integration of applied research into clinical practice as well as the promotion of mental health
