Retrats is a documentary that follows the story of seven people seeking to return to a normal life after many years suffering from schizophrenia. Retrats is not looking for a scientific approach to this disease, but a positive view that shows the enthusiasm and commitment of these individuals in overcoming the illness.
The paint workshop is the backbone for achieving this recovery. Painting acts as a means of expression and freedom, as a metaphor for reconstruction. The documentary shows how this workshop experience changes the characters, the vision they have of their own lives and their opportunities to make their dreams come true.
The documentary offers a unique feature that makes it even more interesting and this is the fact that Lluís Gràcia, the main character and workshop leader, is also suffering from schizophrenia. Lluís has been undergoing similar experiences for years and conveys to students what painting has meant and means in his battle against this illness, with the aim of helping people like him who are in the process of recuperation.
The premiere of Retrats will be presented by their producers, Pau Itarte and Quim Fuster. This will be followed by the screening of the documentary and the event will conclude with a panel discussion involving, in addition to producers, Dr. Cristana Molina, head of the Department of Mental Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya, who has endorsed the project, Joan Sallo (Director of AREP and participant in the documentary), Dr. Carlos Roncero, head of CAS, Vall d'Hebron and Dr. Jose Luis Lorenzo, Medical Advisor from Brainpharma and newly appointed Medical Director of Grupo Ferrer.
Retrats seeks to combat the stigmatisation of mentally disabled patients, showing that all these people are the same as everyone else, with their life projects and their desire to carry them out. They only require specialized support to help overcome their difficulties.
18:00 Presentation.
18:15 Screening of the documentary.

The European Commission has recently announced a new strategy with respect to financial audits of research projects. Its stated intention is to increase significantly the number of audits carried out by the Commission for both FP6 and FP7 projects. Wider use will also be made of penalties and sanctions such as liquidated damages and extrapolation.
This one day briefing organised by Berkley Associates and Walker Associates will look at the impact of these changes and how research projects and their advisers can deal with them.
With the help of practical case studies and a group exercise, the presenters will show you how to prepare for and manage the audit process in the best possible way. The workshop will take you through all the various stages of the audit process, including dealing with the pre-audit questionnaires from the auditors, the audit visit, dealing with the audit report and the implementation of the findings. It is an intensely practical course offering both insight and good practice suggestions for the audit process.
The briefing will be led by John Stringer, a UK Barrister and Simon Walker an experienced R&D funding professional. Both speakers have extensive experience of the management FP6 and FP7 projects and of responding to audits by the Commission services.
