Mental health is something that affects us all. One of every four people will undergo a mental disorder during their lifetime and many more people will live with those affected. The personal, social and economic costs and sacrifices are enormous.
Mental disorders affect young people (including children and adolescents) in many cases and can be chronic. We need to look into the causes and treatments of these disorders as well as to find preventive measures helping us to improve this great problem in our current society.
In spite of the prevalence and incapacity associated with these disorders, under half the public money spent on other medical pathologies such as oncological and cardiovascular conditions is assigned to research into these. This situation is even worse as regards sponsorship donations and for every 100 euros given for research into cancer under 1 euro is donated for research into mental health (www.europeanbraincouncil.org).
We can improve this by all working together!
